Jerry Seinfeld says he was only kidding when he called a cookbook author a "wacko celebrity stalker."
The comedian made the jab at Missy Chase Lapine last fall on the Late Show With David Letterman after Lapine had accused Seinfeld's wife, Jessica, of plagiarizing her idea for a cookbook.
(Lapine released The Sneaky Chef: Simple Strategies for Hiding Healthy Foods in Kids' Favorite Meals in April. Jessica Seinfeld's Deceptively Delicious: Simple Secrets to Get Your Kids Eating Good Food hit shelves in October.)
But in papers filed Friday, the Seinfelds' lawyers dismissed Lapine's plagiarism allegations, stating, "The idea of sneaking healthy foods into a child's diet is not original to your author."
They also slammed her slander and defamation claims, saying that the comedian's "wacko" insults were "overstatements of opinion for comic effect."
Lapine is seeking unspecified compensatory and punitive damages.

As for his wife-- good God, what a piece of work. She left her husband of TWO WEEKS for horse face? Mmmhmmm. As my dad said when Janet Jones married Wayne Getzky, "Well, she sure found her meal ticket, didn't she?"

I too hope Lapine wins against bully and arrogant Jerry. I watch TV that day and actually amazed to see how arrogant he was on TV bullying Lapine. I hope he loose millions and millions to Lapine. Rich and famous people needs to know that they can't bully hard working people just because they are rich and famous! As for Jessica, shame on you for claiming credit for something you absolutely did not work for.

Think about if you came up with something did research brought it to a publisher and were denied and then brought it somewhere else, then a famouse celebrity no body wife has a simular idea and goes to the publisher you first went to and they want to publish it, guess what? your hard work then means nothing!

so when jessica decided she wanted to make a book well guess what her publisher already had a book & cover ready
if the layout of the book was different and the name then i would say things like that happen but come on people
the books are IDENTICAL

When i first heard his comment I believed him, that this person was a wacko. But honestly, there is duplication. Not a question of whether moms for ages have been doing this, question is the author's creative interpretation and it certainly appears to be copied.
Seinfeld used a very public forum to be malicious and spiteful, hoping to bully, intimidate and embarass Lapine in her suit. I hope she stays the course on this one. It would be in Seinfeld's best interest to be muzzled, but by whom? His lawyer$$$ are laughing all the way to the bank.

She is a PLAGIARIST and that's that. If she were in college, she would flank the course, but being married to a very famous and powerful man, she would probably get away with it, as did O.J.Simpson, Robert Blake, and, you name the rest!

probably as much as Jen's marriage to Brad was over before he met Angie.
- About charities - rich people do charity work so they can live with their guilty conscience (the ones that have it) or to get tax breaks (much more likely). Poor people rarely do charity work because they don't have the means or time.
- About having three kids - give me a break. Don't even try to compare having three kids when you or your husband make $60 milllion a year (2006 Seinfeld's income - Forbes Magazine) and having three kids when you make $20,000 or less a year.
- About greed (gold digging) - whether for money (see above), power (when her book is presented throughout bookstores around the country, the announcer states, "Thes Seinfelds, a power couple...") or something else (attention - Paris, Britney) doesn't know limits. Usually, the more one has, the more one wants, and the Seinfelds are no exception. If she were so charitable-minded, she could have donated the proceeds from the book to a charity.
- About being judgemental - hey, we live in a free country and we still have freedom of speech (open any magazine or newspaper, not to mention TV); as long as we communicate in a civilized manner, nothing is off limit.

Jerry, don't be an idiot! If you are on TV being interviewed, it is not the smartest thing to say what you did...and it does affect her credibility. You and Jessica have a gazillion dollars. Can't you let this woman have a moment in her life and make a buck or two??? funny, i've never even seen a copy of the sneaky chef, but tons of decpetively delicious. and they're right, that idea isn't specific to that guy. my mom used to toss in grated carrots and oatmeal in meatloaf, gratted carrots in mashed potatoes, and of course the thanksgiving favorite: candied yams w/ marshmallows. there are a million ways to make veggies seem yummy to kids, or to add them w/o them knowing. besides, if this guy is suing for her stealing her idea, let's look at all the stupid low-carb diets there are out there. we've got about a million of those, and all protein, low fat, no fat......there is not ever one original idea.....

I hope people really spread this across the web. This kind of stuff happens all the time - some normal American comes up with a great idea and a big company (or in this case a big star's wife) copies it and makes millions. She's one of those bored Manhattan wives who comes up with these little projects so it looks like they're worth something and aren't just there to look nice. The funny part is that she probably actually thinks this was her original idea.
So glad they got caught, and so glad that everyone can see through their smugness and self-righteousness. I can't believe
Jerry Seinfeld thinks he should be able to go on national tv and call someone with a legitimate suit a nut job and think he can just pass it off as a joke. I hope they get screwed to the wall.

I also watched Jerry on David Letterman, and my impression is that he was not joking. For him now to say he was is even worst. He should apologize for bulling Ms. Lapine. I used to like Mr. Seinfeld, but throughout all this...well, I have lost all respect I had for him. If you see Ms. Lapine's book vs. Ms. Seinfeld, you can clearly see that her plagiarism suit has merit. I am positive that if this will go to trial, Ms. Lapine will be vastly compensated.
If I was Mr. Seinfeld's lawyer, I will strongly recommend him to settle. But as we witnessed last fall during his appearance at David's show, he is not man enough to do what is right.
Ms. Lavine, keep you spirit high and know that the publics opinion is that the truth is on your side!!! Many blessings to you.

i like jerry seinfield, i wish he would've ended up w/that one gal shoshanna (sp?) instead of this one. all i can say is, she has always struck me as a gold digger. KARMA has a way of coming around and delivering justice when you least expect it. i'm willing to bet eric nederlander (her first husband of a couple of weeks that she drop kicked to the curb when she knew she had a chance w/jerry) is laughing his butt off at her!! karma, karma, karma.

I guess when he realized he might actually get sued for thinking he was above the law to plagiarize off of someone less famous and publicly humiliate this lady, it all of a sudden wasnt funny anymore! Clearly, he thought by attacking her through the media that she wouldnt want the attention and it would bully her to dismiss her suit. Good for her for following through and not caving into his pompous a$s. He picked the wrong lady to mess with; one with a backbone.
