Mischa Barton was arrested around 3 a.m. today for misdemeanor DUI.
In a year marred by DUIs and negative press, why didn’t the 21-year-old actress simply hire a driver?
“People with active addiction don’t think logically,” Dr. Harris Stratyner — vice president of the Caron Treatment Center in Pennsylvania (where MISS USA Tara Conner and Aerosmith’s Steven Tyler were treated) — tells Usmagazine.com.
He says her move also could have been a “call for help.
“There’s always a certain element of self-sabotage,” Stratyner, who has not treated Barton, says. “Why would somebody risk their career? It’s a form of self sabotage.”
He says addiction is a “genetically pre-disposed illness” (Barton’s 19-year-old sister Hania entered rehab in February for an addiction to painkillers). But the actress’ time in the spotlight could also play a role.
“We see a higher incidence of abuse among people who are in the limelight because they’re under tremendous pressure,” Stratyner says. “There’s a tendency to self medicate.”
So what can Barton — who told January’s Maxim that "In New York I’d want to go out at 15 or 16, but I got it out of my system" — do next?
“She needs a loved one to take control and get some help,” he says. Because of her age, especially, “she needs it more so.
“We can’t allow people to hit rock bottom,” Stratyner adds. “We used to think people hit bottom … but sometimes you have to raise a person’s bottom. Their bottom could be death.”

I'm sick and tired of people talking about pressures and making excuses for these women. Alright, so the media and the world watches your every move. Well, if you stopped going out the clubs every 5 mins and started doing constructive things with your life, then maybe you wouldn't be under such scrutiny. These girls need to turn to religion, they have no faith or anything. Their parents are jokes! You have all this money, don't have to worry about how you're going to pay the bills, etc and then they're acting like they have it harder than anyone else.

This is from a real news source. I dont care if this is her first time, I dont care if she is a washed up actress crying for attention - She had better face some penalty, and not some half bleep 84 minute stint like Lindsay. Paris did more jail time for driving without a license. Lets give her the same treatment.

Is walking the red carpet just not doing it anymore, now the young stars seem to think that they have to get a DUI, and maybe even make and release a sex tape, to get their names out there again.
This is really sad, I think that they are being told by somebody, maybe their agents, that all press is good press, which is obviously a lie!! AND even worst, a very bad message is being sent to impressionable teens, who will no doubt think it's okay to drink, and drive. Unfortunetly, one these kids will probably end up killing themselves, or someone else.

ONE drink is considered DRIVING under the influence!
When you drink, you may not even feel buzzed and still blow above the limit, which is very low for a reason.
It was a mistake, and hopefully it won't happen again. I doubt she needs an intervention, maybe some attention.

I wish these so called doctors would stop trying to find excuses for drunk driving(and other bad behavior). Not all drunk drivers have an addiction to alcohol. Some are just idiots who have had too much to drink and get behind the wheel of a car because they think they are okay to drive.

Her role on the O.C. ended two years ago. I do not see her much in the gossip pages/blogs since she dumped Cisco Adler. That was almost a year ago. She's very low-key not a paparazzi ho like....LL, PH, BS, and NR.

I do think Hollywood is slowly getting out of control, but everyone is in control of their own actions. Not all of Hollywood is this way...drugs can have an effect on someones actions, especially while drinking. The smart thing was to, which was said already, was to hire a driver.
